Plaquemines Parish

Economy
Plaquemines Parish is located at the southernmost tip of Louisiana. The parish is the operational center for the offshore oil and gas industry. It is also home to a seafood industry that produces millions of pounds of shrimp, oysters, crabs, and fish annually. Citrus and other produce farms line both sides of the Mississippi River for more than 20 miles, producing abundant tangerine, orange, satsuma, melon, and Creole tomato crops. In addition, it is also home to major petrochemical refineries and coal transfer terminals, which supply millions of tons of these vital resources to the nation and beyond. Plaquemines Parish represents one of the most promising areas for industrial growth in South Louisiana. Its low tax base, an abundance of natural resources and undeveloped land, miles of deep draft water frontage, comprehensive transportation networks, the availability of raw materials, an able work force, and a pro-business attitude make the parish ideal for economic growth.
Lifestyle
The rich plains that make up Plaquemines Parish comprise one of the most
unique ecological wonders in the world. Created more than 700 years ago when the Mississippi River shifted 50 miles from its ancestral banks, this fertile land mass and wetlands make up nearly 10 percent of the nation’s total wetlands. Labeled by many a “sportsman’s paradise,” Plaquemines Parish has become a favorite recreational choice with its many waterways, fishing spots, and hunting grounds. However, it’s also home to serious business.
